Live Free and Starve vs. The Singer Solution to World Poverty

Chitra Divakuruni and Peter Singer have completely different views, when it comes to aiding third world countries. In Live Free and Starve, by Chitra, she was proposing the USA helps poor and starving families in these countries, by buying consumer goods from factories, where there are indentured kids. By giving that company more productivity, we are giving those kids an oppurtunity to make more money and prevent themselves from starvation. Whereas Singer in The Singer Solution to World Poverty, he says that instead of buying luxuries as in cruises and fancy clothing, we should donate all that money to save kids all around the world from starvation. I personally do not completely fancy both concepts. I do want to help all these starving kids, but by importing all of these goods, we are also hurting our economy and putting my own future kids in their same position. And singer said, "An American Household annually spends $30,000 dollars only on necessities, and the rest should be donated to poor families" I disagree with Singer's view here because if every family donated all of their annual money, except for the $30,000, then the poor people would become richer than everyone else. But I do agree, that everyone should pitch in and exleast try to donate the $200 to save one kids life a year. I think we could all wait a few more months for those new shoes, or that fancy car, and in turn spend that money to save a kid. I think I do have bias in these articles due to the culure I was raised up in. I didn't really agree with the first one because I'm always hearing people say how bad the economy is, and I don't really want to risk putting my future grandkids in the same position as those starving kids. And for Singer's proposition I like the idea of everyone chipping in money every year to save millions of kids, because I was always raised with the concept "It's better to give, than recieve." "If every citizen in affluentt nations contributed his or her share, I wouldn't have to make such a drastic sacrifice." This is exactly what I agree with, if everyone did his or her own share, millions of kids could be saved. Rather than one person sacrificing all of his or her own hard earned money for the sake of others.
